Description

Two dies (obverse and reverse) with a separate centre piece (with central hole) contained in a green felt lined wooden (oak) hinged lid box. One compartment can be removed to reveal the third piece. Metal (?Steel) dies. The dies were used to cast the Gold medal between Feb. 1824 to 1831, when the Astronomical Society of London received a royal charter and become known as the Royal Astronomical Society, resulting in an updated medal design.
