The Royal Astronomical Society is pleased to announce that the 2026 National Astronomy Meeting (NAM2026) is being held by the University of Birmingham from Monday 20 July to Friday 24 July.
It will cover the full range of astronomy research in the UK, including the instrumentation and astro-particle communities, as well as other key issues relevant to the UK astronomy community. The meeting also includes the UK Solar Physics (UKSP), and the Magnetosphere Ionosphere and Solar-Terrestrial (MIST) communities.
NAM2026 is organised in conjunction with the University of Birmingham's School of Physics and Astronomy.
The call for session-proposal submissions is now open. Members of all communities across all levels of seniority are encouraged to apply for specialist and cross-disciplinary scientific presentation and discussion sessions. As well as holding parallel sessions of varying duration, the conference may host collaborative meetings, workshops and lunch sessions. The applicants of any successful proposals will be expected to take on the role of scientific organisers of the session. Abstracts will be assessed anonymously, so applicants should take this into account when writing session-proposal plans.
NAM2026 is a hybrid conference, where the majority of participants are expected to attend in person. By using a hybrid model, the aim is to allow as many people as possible to experience the conference and learn about the exciting astronomy and space science research being carried out around the UK and further afield.
Proposals should be submitted online at https://www.sr.bham.ac.uk/nam2026/session_proposals.php. The deadline is Friday 19 December 2025.
