Geophysical Journal International (GJI) is one of the world's leading peer-reviewed research journals in solid-Earth geophysics and is seeking a new Deputy Editor-in-Chief to support the Editor-in-Chief (EiC), Dr Margarita Segou, with the journal development and wider activities of the journal.
Role Description
The Deputy EiC will assist the EiC to oversee the publishing of a reputable, high-quality, and high-impact journal.
They will be a solid-Earth geophysicist with expertise in one of the key subject areas covered by GJI, and they will have a broad interest across the wider field. The role will require the new Deputy EiC to act as an editor on the journal handling the peer review of around 40 papers per year.
Additional responsibilities for the Deputy EiC’s role are:
• to provide cover for the EiC during annual leave and deputise for the EiC when necessary
• to assist with ethics and integrity matters
• to support the EiC with the Journal’s strategic development
• to contribute ideas on commissioning new material, including review articles, special issues, Data Notes and Viewpoints
• to support the updating of article types, editorial practice and accelerating peer review processes using contemporary technologies
• to make suggestions for editorial board appointments
• to contribute views on matters for discussion; and
• to be involved in ad-hoc strategy and development meetings with the RAS Editorial Office and the Journal’s publisher, Oxford University Press.
The initial appointment is for a term of three years, and a modest honorarium will be offered for the successful applicant.
