Space exploration is increasingly expensive, but the exploration that we have undertaken is showing that there are resources out there that technology is making increasingly accessible. In a report on their RAS Specialist Discussion Meeting, Ian Crawford, Martin Elvis and James Carpenter outline ways in which a new space economy based on the resources available on the Moon and asteroids could support and enhance solar system science and even astronomy.
