Tell your friends – and perhaps come along yourself – to a stellar evening at Hoghton Tower, near Preston. On 11 November, the Banqueting Hall will host a public lecture by Don Kurtz of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), followed by the chance to observe the night sky with telescopes from UCLan's Alston Observatory. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own observing equipment, to set up in the gardens. And, if you are thinking of typical November nights in Lancashire, there will be a Stellarium in the gardens, an undercover projection of the night sky if it is too cloudy to observe directly.
Check out the Houghton Tower website for full details of the event and the site. Tickets cost £32 per person and you can buy them on-line at this address. But do note that places for the talk are limited and seating will be first come first served on the night, so make a note to be there in good time: the site will be open from 5pm and the talk starts at 6pm.
This event has been made possible as part of the wider Hoghton Tower - UCLan Initiative and by the cooperation of its faculty in the Jeremiah Horrocks Institute.
