Care for Carers is a Voluntary Organisation established in 1989 to provide support services to all carers, regardless of age, gender, disability or relationship of the person they care for.

We deliver services to carers in Edinburgh and we deliver specific short breaks through our Stepping Out service to carers from across Scotland.

The aim of this project will be to:

  • Link short break services for carers with the world of Astronomy.
  • Provide carers with a variety of new opportunities to take part in dedicated Astronomy Short Breaks
  • Provide carers with new experiences, support learning and introduce carers to a new or past area of interest.
  • Provide carers with opportunities, activities and breaks which are enjoyable, fun, ongoing and motivating

The project, based in Scotland, will involve day, evening and weekend activities and visits to organizations such as the Royal Observatory Edinburgh. Carers will also be able to make new friends and follow up their new interests, perhaps online, which in turn increases their confidence. Care for Carers also hopes that these activities will support specific groups of carers: young adult carers, men, those from ethnic minorities and carers in remote rural locations.
