Letters to Lord Vallance and Graeme Dey MSP on the closure of geophysics degrees (2025)

In May 2025 the RAS wrote to Lord Vallance of Balham, the Minister of State for Science, Innovation, and Research, and to Graeme Dey MSP, the Scottish Government Minister for Further and Higher Education expressing our deep concern at the crisis in geophysics in universities. Only around 100 undergraduates are enrolled on geophysics courses across the UK, despite its strategic importances, and the remaining programmes are at risk of closure. The letters to ministers and their replies are included here, along with an endorsement by geophysics staff and the senior vice-principal at the University of Aberdeen.
