The Royal Astronomical Society is saddened to learn of the tragic death of Professor Tom Marsh of the University of Warwick, whose body has been found near the European Southern Observatory in Chile.
Professor Marsh worked in astronomy for four decades, founding the research group at Warwick in 2003, and in recent years he specialised in the accretion and evolution of binary star systems. The Society recognised his work in 2018 by the award of the Herschel Medal.
We would like to offer our condolences to Professor Marsh’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be missed by very many of us who had the privilege of working with him.
The University of Warwick has set up an online condolence book where messages for his family are being collated.
