The Herschel Society and Royal Astronomical Society are now welcoming applications for the 2025 Caroline Herschel Prize Lectureship.

The Lectureship was established to celebrate Caroline’s memory by supporting promising women astronomers early in their careers.

Caroline, the younger sister of the RAS's first President, William Herschel, started out as his assistant, but in time became recognised as an important astronomer in her own right, was the first to be paid as such, and was awarded the RAS Gold Medal in 1828.

Applications, which should be made by 30 April, are now open for the 2025 Prize Lectureship.

The award will be based on individual applications assessed by a small expert committee under the auspices of both Societies.

Details on the award itself, eligibility, and the application form, are available here.
