Image of Hinode probe (artist's impression) The Hinode spacecraft (Japanese for 'sunrise') was launched in September 2006, and is a joint collaboration between Japan, the US and UK, with UCL a key component of the UK contribution. UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory built the EIS (Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph) onboard Hinode.
