Biography

Jiajia Sun is an Associate Professor of Geophysics in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston. His research centers on characterizing and monitoring subsurface systems using gravity, magnetic, and electromagnetic measurements, integrated with geological and drillhole constraints. He specializes in geophysical inversion, including joint inversion, within both deterministic and Bayesian frameworks, with applications to critical mineral exploration, geological hydrogen exploration, CO₂ plume monitoring, hydrogeology, and volcanic systems. His current research focuses on probabilistic inversion and uncertainty quantification using deep generative models, with the goal of developing more reliable and computationally efficient approaches for subsurface imaging and monitoring.
