Dr Ian Bastow

Ian Bastow is a senior lecturer in global seismology and continental tectonics at Imperial College London, UK. His research uses earthquake seismology to constrain the structure and dynamics of the crust and mantle. He is particularly interested in understanding how continents break up by studying the seismically- and volcanically-active East African Rift System. Ian also has a long-standing interest in the formation and evolution of the cratonic cores of the continents, particularly northern Canada.
