The Royal Astronomical Society
The Royal Astronomical Society is looking for an Assistant Editor to process research papers submitted for publication to its leading research journal, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS). This is an administrative position which involves using a web-based submission and tracking system, and handling the resulting correspondence with authors, scientific editors, referees and the publisher. Good English and communication skills are essential, while a scientific background and interest in astronomy is highly desirable. Degree level education is preferred. Experience of publishing in, or working on, academic journals would be helpful but is not essential. Applicants should refer to the RAS website for the full job description.
Starting salary is £30,500. Annual leave entitlement is 20 days, rising to 25 days after 5 years (exclusive of standard UK bank holidays and four RAS Privilege days). Typical working hours are 09:30 to 17:30. Please note that this is a UK-based position. Due to the pandemic this is currently a remote-working position, but when it is possible to resume normal working, it will be based in Burlington House, London.
