"I have worked at the RAS for 15 years and always loved the original RAS logo. I felt it was important that it was included in the quilt since it has been the logo for the RAS for the last 200 years. I haven't done much embroidery in the past so I learnt a few basic stitches and thought the RAS logo would be fairly simple to do with a lot of straight stitches. I was a bit daunted by the thought of stitching the telescope but once I got going it was fine, although very time consuming.
I have loved being involved in the quilt project. The early stitching sessions in the RAS offices before lockdown were such great fun. It was wonderful to see the solar system side of the quilt being stitched and to talk to the other contributors and see what they were doing in their own quilt squares. I have joined in most of the online sessions and they have been a brilliant way of connecting with people during lockdown and I have learnt so much from the other participants. I feel like a lovely little community has been formed as a result of this project."
