The Visiting Experts Programme is a partnership between the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) and the RAS which funds astronomers based in the UK to visit institutions in the developing world. The programme is designed to assist development in regions which do not yet have a strong capacity in astronomy research and education.
The key areas for development are:
- School level education
- Public understanding of science
- University level education and research
It is also expected that visits by UK experts to developing regions will not only benefit the target country but also broaden the perspectives of the scientists involved, and present opportunities to explore collaborations with developing countries on projects in science, technology and innovation.
Further information
Full details of the scheme, including the level of funds available and instructions on how to apply, are available from the OAD.
