A bit of a change

Betelgeuse is now of those familiar stars that are easy to find in the sky, with a distinctive colour and some superlative statistics. And over the past few years, it has been adding to its celebrity status with come rapid changes in brightness, including the Great Dimming. What exactly is going on? In order to answer that question, J Craig Wheeler and Manos Chatzopoulos bring together some of the findings of The Betelgeuse Project, a major research effort to understand this red supergiant. They've written a longer review than we normally have, and it's our cover feature.
