Martin Mai is Professor of Earth Science and Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. He joined KAUST in June 2009 as founding faculty member; prior to this, he worked as senior research scientist at ETH Zurich in the Swiss Seismological Service. His main research topics are the physics of earthquakes and the complexity of earthquake phenomena, earthquake-source imaging, dynamic rupture modelling, and earthquake mechanics. His work extends to strong ground-motion properties, near-source seismic wave-field simulations (incl. seismic wave scattering), tsunami simulations, seismic & tsunami hazard, and related earthquake-engineering applications.
