Call for grant applications - August 2018 round

The RAS welcomes applications for funding under its ongoing grants scheme. The deadline for the next round of grants is 15 August 2018. Applications should normally be for sums between £250 and £5,000 (restrictions apply). This round we have a new online application process, please see below.

The RAS offers grants in support of research or study in any areas of astronomy and geophysics, including:

  • Activities related to the history of Astronomy or Geophysics
  • Conference/Meeting Travel Subsistence
  • Funding for Meeting Organising
  • Instrumentation - RAS Tomkins awards
  • Observing/Field Trips - E.A. Milne Travelling Fellowship
  • Study or Research Projects
  • Other - please specify

In general these grants aim to support requests which are unlikely to be considered for funding from research councils and other agencies.

Applications are assessed twice a year. The next deadline is 15 August 2018; applications submitted by this date will receive a decision by 15 October 2018. (The following round will have a deadline of 15 February 2019, with decisions by 15 April 2019.)

Any Fellow of the RAS may apply. If you are interested in applying for a grant, please see how to apply here, along with the criteria for grants, which have been updated this year. Please read the instructions carefully as Fellows will no longer be able to apply on behalf of anyone else, other than for the undergraduate bursaries.

Education and Outreach grants are also available in this round, click here for more information and to apply.
