#RASreach2018!

Start Date
End Date

The RAS will be holding an education and outreach day training and networking day this summer.

Anyone involved in astronomy or geophysics is welcomed to the day, but there will be a focus on training Fellows to do astronomy and geophysics outreach, particularly for those who haven't experienced it before.

Fellows who are interested in doing more outreach, teachers who would like more space resources, industry experts looking to improve their social media skills, #RASreach2018! has something for everyone! You might work in a school, for a science centre, you might be an academic or a university student, a professional or a volunteer, #RASreach2018! is for you!

The programme is TBC, but sessions topics include;

  • Presenting your research in schools
  • Working with primary age children
  • Innovative outreach ideas for unusual situations (e.g. prisons)
  • Effective use of social media campaigns
  • Networking with experts in the field, including our Patrick Moore and Annie Maunder medal winners
  • How to get involved with real research in schools
  • Comedy training
  • STEM ambassador sign up
  • Presenter training
  • and many more.

Registration is between 9.30-10am and the event programme will run from 10am - 4.30pm. As this event is free of charge we are unable to provide refreshments or lunch. However there are many coffee bars and eateries in the near vicinity. During the lunch break there is time for networking and also a 'show and tell' exhibition in the RAS for you to attend.

The event is completely free of charge but we ask that you let us know if you can no longer attend, as we expect there to be a waiting list. We will of course be tweeting on the day.

The RAS are committed to diversity and equality. By attending this event you agree to adhere to our Code of Conduct and our Diversity and Inclusion policy.
