VISIT TO HERSTMONCEUX - TUESDAY 21 OCTOBER DATE: TUESDAY 21 OCTOBER 6:30 -9:10 PM The ballot is now open for this trip!
Due to availability of onward taxis from Polegate Station, there will only be 24 places in total.The Tour will be introduced by Dr Sandra Voss, Science Director. If there is a clear night, we shall be able to see 2 of the historic telescopes in operation through the guide scopes: the 26" Refractor on a rising floor and the 13" Astrograph. We may be able to use the 30" reflector. If the skies are uncooperative, we shall have a comprehensive tour of the site and telescope domes. There will be a break for hot drinks and a biscuit about halfway through the visit.Transport (15 mins) to and from Polegate Station will be by taxis and/or minibuses and the exact cost will depend on availability.
Train Travel:
Depart Victoria Station 16:47, arrive Polegate 18:09. Return: Depart Polegate 21:37, arrive Victoria 22:57. Cost (Advance with Senior Rail Pass) £18:90pp (National Rail)Estimated additional cost to train fares: (entrance, taxi/minibus) £ 12. This will be chargeable when the booking reservation is confirmed.Booking: If oversubscribed, those who did not go to Jodrell Bank will be given a place. If you are travelling to Herstmonceux by car, please indicate with your booking.
